Thought for the Day 29 August 2018
I’ve been watching the shenanigans at the metros that have coalitions between normally competing parties and the resulting mess leads me to my thought for today:
“Can politicians ever be trusted to put the people they serve first?”
Some of you will immediately insist that this is a stupid question – “of course not,” you will answer. Others will rush to defend the poor maligned politicians, saying “they are doing their best.” From my perspective, the first answer is the correct one. From all the back stabbing and maneuvering for better positions and accusing each other of dastardly deeds, it is clear to me that all these politicians are worrying about is the good of themselves and their party. None of it is being done in the interests of the people they serve. In fact it is distracting them completely from what they are supposed to be doing. The real truth is that they are behaving like buffoons and all of them should be thrown out on their ears. They should be replaced by people who see their entire purpose being the best possible service to the constituents they support. This farce simply reinforces my opinion that politics is an anachronism that must be replaced by a better system with honest, diligent people doing the very best job they can in the service of the people.
I have a suggestion – let’s give the politicians a piece of land surrounded by a barbed wire fence, where they can play their stupid games far away from the rest of us. Of course, they will not be paid to do this like they are now – a good double whammy for the people – significantly less cost and the rest of the money going where it is supposed to go, to improve the quality of life of the real people of the country. I look forward to the day.
Cheers, Dave
