Thought for the Day 31 August 2017
I was in my garden this morning and I realized that it was warm and the tress were starting to show new leaf growth. My brain immediately dredged up a silly jingle I knew as a kid, and that is my thought for today:
“Spring is sprung, the grass is riz. I wonder where the birdies is?”
It’s really odd how the mind works, but the jingle is a child’s way of celebrating the change of season from the cold and dark of winter to the warmth and light of spring. A feeling of happiness and hope is almost inevitable. When I was a student in Scotland, I knew, and worked with, an old gardener. He told me he looked forward to the start of spring because then he knew he would live another year. He was convinced that he would die in the winter. I don’t think I believe the idea, but there’s no doubting the effect it had on him. He seemed happy, rejuvenated and full of hope. It made me feel good too and I’ve never forgotten it. So, although spring only officially starts tomorrow, I had the feeling today and wanted to share it.
Hope you all have the springtime feeling for all of the year to come.
All the best!
